11.30.2021 | 1:50 AM | SOUTH LOS ANGELES - Raw camera footage shows the dramatic moments where 6 cars wrecked on the 110 freeway.

A single vehicle crash occurred on the southbound I-110, directly over Florence Ave.

4 additional crashes occurred as result of the initial collision, with multiple near misses.

All 4 additional crashes are on camera, and several near misses.

A total of 6 vehicles were involved in the awful wreck.

LAFD paramedics responded and transported one male victim and one female victim to the hospital in unknown condition.

The driver of the initial vehicle that had crashed fled the scene on foot.

Major damage was done to multiple vehicles involved in the crash.

An OnScene.TV photojournalist was traveling northbound on the 110 when he witnessed the initial single-vehicle crash on the southbound side.

Multiple witnesses reported the initial crash to CHP.

The photojournalist exited the freeway and went to the crash, and informed CHP of the incident.

While on scene, the photojournalist attempted to warn oncoming motorists utilizing flashing lights and aiming a directional spotlight at the crashed vehicles, lighting the scene, however, 6 vehicles were involved in the crash.

The photojournalist contacted 911 although police were already enroute to the scene to notify authorities that additional vehicles were involved. Unfortunately, only so much can be done without jeopardizing personal safety.

This is truly disturbing. It seems like the majority of these drivers do not hit their brakes until they're a few metres away from the wreck.

That’s what most people do. They all tailgate and they don’t understand the simple concept called follow distance. The sad part is that they act like they do when they get their license, then they forget or don’t care after the test. It’s almost like they try to get into car wrecks and kill people but act surprised when they don’t know how braking distance works.

@Jenifer Markoe You're dead right. The scariest thing that happened to me driving was being on the freeway in the broad daylight. A car had stalled under the overpass. The had no lights on and I thought he was in motion. I slammed on the brakes so hard. Came a few feet from pinning his wife who had seen me coming and decided to relax and smoke a cigarette by the back of their car. This makes me feel so lucky. I would go to jail for killing a "padestrian"

@UNALII Are you on drugs? He had his hazard knights on and was shining light on the car to tell others to watch out. In the video you can see that he turned off his light for a second and someone ended up crashing instantly. He can’t just run up to the car, he is in a highway and was trying to help the best he could. He didn’t have to turn on his light to the car but he chose to.

Seeing this video reinforces my awareness on the road even more. Honestly, every time I get behind the wheel, I don't worry too much about how I am doing on the road. It's the fact that I am constantly looking around for idiots like these not to crash into me. It is so sad to see this. At which point for these drivers to realize that they need to slow down as they approach the scene? So many people who are clearly shouldn't be driving are all over the place. Not only the ones who actually crashed into the wreck, but look at how many nearly missed by inches away. Pay attention, people!! smh...

@Trevor Jameson exactly! I totally agree with you. I have my social media accounts and all that, too, but I also know when to use it. People long forgotten that a car is a dangerous machine. Very dangerous machine, especially in a wrong hand like in this video. We have the privilege to be able to drive it, and people are taking it for granted. When I see those stories about airplane cars, I just laugh. It will never be allowed for normal people to use it like we see them flying cars in the movies. I mean, how is it going to be possible when we can’t even keep the road on the ground safe 😂🤣😂🤣

You guys don't realize that many cars were occupying most of the lanes (mainly the middle), hence forcing the other cars in the side to crash, because they thought there was a safe passage. Not to mention the fact that it's a highway where cars cannot slow down without visibility. It's completely out of the ongoing traffic's hands =)

@Tobor Da'Bot I mean being realistic, people are gonna cruise at 80 for the most part. That's fine, long as your grip on the wheel is tight, and your eyes sharp. Driving fast is not something to be done casually. That's where the most danger lies, imo. The girls doing makeup while doing 60 in the left lane are dangerous as hell too.

@Truffle Gang that's the thing tho... most of the cars people drive are NOT meant to be driven at 90 mph. Idiots think they're Vin Diesel in a damn SUV. Whenever one of them blow by me, their cars look so unstable. You can tell that most people have forgotten that one false move at that speed and you're dead. The average person doesn't know how to control a fishtailing car going 90 mph. A NASCAR driver would be ok, maybe. But the average person would die.

Stopping and walking onto the middle of an active interstate is absolutely stupid. Not only is your vehicle now an extra hazard to avoid, but you are also putting your own life in serious jeopardy. Plus what are you going to do anyways? The involved parties are safest to remain in their vehicles until emergency crews arrive. We cant see how many drivers called 911... Being smart isnt selfish.

Here in the UK, if you break down on the motorway, you're told to get out your car and go up onto the embankment out the way to stay safe. And all the other car drivers, what just a handful put their hazards for warning people, that is what they are for use them.

I would think that any of the drivers that were actually able to break out of this in time safely should have immediately parked their car in front of the wreckage, hit their emergency blinkers and exited their vehicle so as to give others a better chance to see and react. Not to do so and instead just leave a scene you almost just crashed into yourself is actually irresponsible, and could easily cause way more havoc and deaths than necessary.

Sometimes the potential unintactness of your vehicle just isn't as important as someone else's safety. I hope if I ever run into this kind of situation that I'll be a man of my word and use my vehicle as an effective signalling shield, instead of getting tunnel-vision towards getting away as soon as possible..

Peace out, and be safe out there gang!

Scary and reminds me of very similar close call on the freeway I had years ago. At night driving in fast lane (limit about 70), just matter of a few seconds I saw black car half on shoulder and in the lane, no hazard lights were on and I swerved, missed it by inches (thankfully no other vehicle was in lane next to me). I pulled over quite a distance away but and could see several people standing around, and CHP lights approaching. I heard the driver wasn’t hurt and only the one car was involved. Even though it was years ago, I am still iffy about night time freeway traveling because of that incident.

When I see danger up ahead, I always flash MY hazards to alert the people behind me (if only for a few blinks)---always! This country needs to re-normalize thinking of others.
    Also:
    1. I have made a strong habit over the years of looking waaay ahead of me while driving. 2. I check all my mirrors all the time. 3. I physically turn to check blind spots before changing lanes---car warning systems or not. There's no substitute for human eyes attached to a brain. 4. If you wanna drive crazy or too fast, I'll be more than happy to let you win. Have at it. I'll move over. No amount of ego is worth dying and/or causing the death of someone else or screwing up my car. Damn that!

Its not yours or blm Inc or for any one to just burn down. Fxxx that. I dont care how mad they are. What their doing is causing more hate, division and racism. Drug dealers dont do it because its the only job available. Dont make excuses for their behavior. My family and I came from nothing, weve lost members due to drugs n shit but we also own homes and cars thanks to leaving the bullshit behind and focusing on work and being a member of society. Its like California letting people steal. Its not helping them and the majority is abusing it.

@migas custom sounds He's not encouraging rioting, he's saying that oftentimes its the only way of getting people's attention to start making real change. And regardless of what he said, 93% of blm protests across the country are nonviolent according to Time, this "blm are causing widespread destruction" thing is a fantasy. Also, how do you think you "prevent" gang violence in the first place? It's not through policing it after the fact, it's through diverting money from things that are already overfunded in the first place (police) to social programs that can give gang members jobs so they don't NEED to sell drugs to make a living.

@Blue Basset nothing american about burning America down. What are u talkn about. They should care about gangs more than about the police. Police shot every one, their gangs kill each other and kill more inocent black people than the police do. Check out Chicago for example on violence. California for flash robberies n shit. Even black people agree but if ur not with blm than ur racist by default.

In Italy, when there is something dangerous on the streets, we turn on the emergency lights (the hazards) SO THE OTHER DRIVERS CAN SEE YOU!!! It doesn’t matter if u don’t hit anyone, you see a danger and you turn on the lights to warning the people behind you!

What I learned by spending some time in Europe is that you hit your emergency lights when something is going on so people can be alerted. Over here in the states, just slam on your brakes and give someone a heart attack and everyone moves on.

Some of the comments say this happened at 4:01am…. Having grown up in that area (South Central) now know as South LA, I can almost guarantee the majority had alcohol in their system,

Also, lighting on that stretch of the 110 has always been really bad, not sure why they don’t have that area well lit.

Glad I seldom have to use the 110 these days…

Saying this as someone who has driven this part of the 110 many times- they need more street lights and lighting in general on this part of the freeway. I know the corrupt ass city doesn’t care because it’s the part of the 110 that goes right through South LA, but it’s dangerous as hell for everyone, especially for my brothers and sisters that use this freeway everyday for work.

What people making the comments don't realize is that when you are involved in an accident, the accident has already occurred before you realize it's going to happen. It's just that quick. You don't have time to decide how you are going to avoid the wreck. You only have time to react afterwards (if you aren't dead or unconscious). Defensive driving is the only way to MAYBE have a second or two of reaction time.

This made me so upset!! I was in a head on vehicle accident 24 years ago and I came close to death, so this really shook me to the core. This will stay with me for a long time. From what I’ve seen, the black car was broken down on a freeway in the driving lane with oncoming traffic coming from the same direction. The driver didn’t pull off to the shoulder or off to the side where he’d be safe from the traffic. The driver briefly walked out his car to check around it, failed to turn on his emergency flashers on and the drivers were traveling at high speeds, so the first car behind him couldn’t stop in time and hit the broken down car.

This saves uncountable human life’s since it is a must to act like this step after step.

Drivers licenses are given out like candy to anyone who can manage to drive around for 5 minutes and not make more than 2 errors, parallel park and pass a written exam, at least here in PA.

@Heartcell Island we look at brake lights. Brake lights tell you if there’s traffic ahead. Brake lights brake lights brake lights. A car sitting in a lane with no hazard lights will be hit. Why? We are looking for brake lights!!!!!!

Why not use the hazard lights to warn the other drivers?. Why didn't some of them just stop on the shoulder with the hazard lights, that would have been helpful.

I get it...its dark..you can't see what's in front of you as they all speed to go no where fast. Others really don't pay attention, go figure. I can see the law enforcement were at a bad spot on the side of the road (I get it, safety), but they could have backed up more and go behind the stalled car and have their lights on instead of leaving the guy by himself until help arrives. But the crash kept piling up. IDK strange world...

All of these driver’s need to have their licenses revoked , I don’t understand what I just watched and how did they not see the vehicles up ahead, even with my low beams on I could have seen the up coming wreckage, also why din't they use precautionary measures once they had approached the wreckage?!

@Almiron Salke there was something clearly wrong with his car. If you can't avoid hitting a stationary vehicle in front of you which is lit up by a 225K candle torch, you should burn your license and never get into a driver's seat ever again. Don't blame a broken down car for your inability to keep an eye on the road.

Driving scared causes more than enough accidents here in the East Coast. Breaking at every on and off ramp, breaking on highway turns, breaking on an on-ramp or a merge onto a road. Scared drivers can't multi-task and thats what driving is about. You should be looking A LOT and knowing your surroundings at all times. Everyone's different and you'll have to accept that. Looking straight only is NOT AN OPTION!! Being on your phone is not an option. Way too many are on their phone in the East Coast. Most cars have damages on them here. Its ridiculous. Try testing your abilities to predict what the drivers are going to do around you. Use your blinkers and look ffs! Just because you have your blinker on, doesn't mean you can cut over 2-3 lanes to turn off onto an off-ramp. Clips like this scare more people now. If you are scared, don't drive or don't go on a expressway because just like the faster drivers, you too are putting people at risk being scared and nervous.

I blame the SUV that was right next to the empty LEFT lane. That crash could’ve been avoided had the other car behind him move a lane over to the left. 2:20 🤦🏾‍♀️

@Erica Kane I think people did the right thing by not trying to cross that road. The chance of them being hit or killed was unfortunately the right thing to do. The only thing that would get traffic to stop is seeing flashing lites & the presence of fire trucks. Horrible situation.

It all comes down to how far ahead of your vehicle you are looking. 25 years LEO, most drivers only look about 300 feet ahead. At 75-80 miles per hour, you are not giving yourself enough time to process an unexpected event.

This is why I have multiple items to alert other drivers- a flare, a flashing green light that goes on the roof, a couple of flashlights. But obviously if you’re injured or passed out in your car I could see how this situation would become so dangerous.

Impossible to happen in Europe for many reasons. Big difference in road safety and traffic organization. Even the same cars in the US are terribly equipped in comparison to European versions. You are still in the 20th century. Shame.

My guess is the secondary crashes were due to distracted driving. how can you not see a car in the road being lit up with a spotlight unless you are not paying attention.

I dont think i ever seen so many wreckless drivers in one place , its amazing to see how stupid they are . Not one is aware of whats going on around them , they just plant their foot on the accelerator and hope for the best .
