Hey Motobob, really liked your review of the Triumph Trident. When are you doing a ride review of the 1290 SAS ? Maybe add some spice with direct comparison with competitor bikes from Ducati & BMW ?

Hope its a bit lower than my 2017 only thing I struggle with , love the bike done only 8000 miles on it hope they give me a fair trade in though , we've tried other bikes nothing comes close to the 1290 ktm it does everything just hope the new one comes up to scratch fingers crossed.

I love the BMW, but the price and the extremely poor reliability makes this bike a plan Z. I never drove the V4 multistrada but anyway even if I can pay 25 grand I won't do that, 20k is the max i WANT to put into a bike I will keep for the next 4-5 years. I will trest the KTW next week end, so I'll know if I like it or not. Regarding KTM reliability it LOOKS LIKE it WAS awful, but to be honest for the last model I dont know.

I owned a 2015 Multistrada. It was a POS. Incompetent suspension - wanted to do tank slappies all the time. Throttle maps meant any old lady could out drag you at the lights. Parts made out of cocoa tin. Ludicrously expensive repairs. An oil pan full of metal shavings - the longest 3/16 inch. I now have a 1290 SAS - great bike.

Great video! I would love to own a KTM again but really nervous about their reliability after the issues and poor customer service I had with my 1190. They should really offer a 3yr warranty like BMW to help put your mind at ease. Be keen to see if they have fixed the excessive heat problem coming of the rear cylinder and exhaust header.

KTM sell an insulated rear header, but it is $420. I removed mine and wrapped it in DEI EXO tape. Problem solved for $40. I think the shock might also appreciate the reduced heat.

The suspension on the earlier models is incredible, so having real time adjustment will be fantastic...it’s really the best suspension. WP is so much better than the Japanese offerings and Öhlins as well. Active cruise? No thanks.

    • dimos k

      dimos k

      2 mesi fa

it probably depends on the height of the rider. if you are short, you select low, and the bike then auto-adjusts the preload in a range around that "low" setting if you are tall, you select high, and it auto-adjusts around a higher setting.

Adaptive cruise for must be the stupidest tech for a motorcycle.
We who ride, want to warp away from traffic. Why would we want to stay at a steady speed behind a car instead of Pulling away ???,
C'mon, what a waste of money. Riders like to be part of the ride, Travel at a faster pace than idiot car drivers and not have a slower car in front of you dictate your pace/Speed.
This tech will never be used by riders , and it's a waste.
Laugh and explain to any dealer who tries to Sell you this Bullshit technology on a motorcycle.
Whatever motorcycle company adapts this stupid idea is just trying to sell you something that doesn’t make sense on a motorcycle and that you’ll never use or need.

I share your thoughts. The answer would have been an 1190, but they only sold it in the US as the R model. The cost of switching it to S spec would have been prohibitive, so I got a 1290 SAS and so far so good. I expect one day it will cost me a fortune, but right now it is a quick, competent, easy bike to ride, or if I turn off the traction control, a complete hooligan.

At 5'9" KTM's have been intimidating to me to try and hop on them. I do of course, but I've only show-roomed them, not actually demo-ridden one. The multistrada is a total gasoline pig, and I don't know what Duc was thinking...that bike is out of the picture for any long rides. I'll go look at this one, and check the seats out, but I'm thinking it's still going to be a taller rider's bike. The engine on these KTMs is probably better actually than the BMW variable valve thing...Even Suzuki has them beat in that category. But, I fit like a glove in the Beemer seat. It makes a big difference.

As a proud owner of a KTM 1290 super adventure S I don’t like the look of this One that Front headlight looks horrible

Great vid as always. This bike is the pinnacle of something... I just don’t know what. All this tech is great on a road bike, but there’s a mega amount of electronics to go wrong on a world crossing ADV no? Who is this bike for? Plus Bret Tkacs is having issues with his KTM.

@Boun Vi Even the 950 was too much power for me.

@John Smith I haven't ridden the 790's yet, but I've owned the 1190 RC8, 1190 ADV-R and my favorite engine this far, the 1290 SD-GT. Amazing how they have that much power and intoxicating torque!

@Boun Vi The 790 engine is crap with so many faults, not good enough on such an expensive bike. The 950 LC8 engine was good.

Same here with Boun Vi, I have a 2 & on 990 SMT done 150kkm. Did 42k in a year few years back as daily use & 700km long distance every weekend for a year & had been absolutely bulletproof.

You should, I have 3! 6 overall though. I’ve owned different model LC8 engines and thumpers and they’ve been nothing but reliable and fun! I’m not sure why they have misconception of being unreliable. Super easy to wrench on, which is important for me because proper maintenance is everything

All it needs now is self-deploying training wheels... Since the bike basically drives itself, might as well go all the way and not have to balance it either. Wouldn't want any of those fat, middle aged buyers of these bikes to actually feel like they are getting off the couch to do anything.... would we? 🙄

@Trevor Millard true but I’ve never driven that car in the rain either. But, rain on a bike is not a huge issue. When I had my BMW K75s I drove all over the east coast of the US for many years.

@B12King umm I don't think so we cannot confine others or tell them to give up riding everyone has their own choices some like the raw riding feel with no interference some like these creature comforts all in all they belong to the same community
