MY ACCENT SO BAD I NEED SUBTITLE

Other subtitle video: itload.info/losk/mXu1s4B70b-xdrg/video
The main font that I have used for the past few years is "Snowstorm bold". It is a free font that you can download. The font used in this video is "Buran USSR" which is also a free font.
Previously I used a full white fill colour for the font but on this video the text is HEX code: FFFCEB. This is a slightly yellow colour that is easier to read and causes less strain on the eyes.
There is much more that goes into making the subtitles that i clearly could not fit in the video. For example the placing of the text of the subtitles has to be times accurately when there is a lot of words being spoken in a row.
I used to try and put subtitles on two lines but that looked bad. So now I only use one line of text always.
There is a lot of style elements also that go into making the subtitles the way that they are. For example I only always us an ellipsis with tho periods (..) instead of three which is the usual (...)
I always try to place no more than 6 words on one line because it could get hard to read. I never use periods on the ends of lines. When using a foreign language when speaking, I usually mark it in subtitles with a different colour so that the reader does not get confused. This way the viewer can go and look up the word online.
The size of subtitles has changed considerably over the years. It started as a very big size (how to slav your car) and then dropped to a very small size (cheburek video).
Subtitles are also a nice way to add small easter eggs into videos. Not everyone reads subtitles so not everyone sees them.
Just to clarify, subtitles that I add on videos are not the same as ITload CC. CC means closed captions. Closed captions are "closed" when video starts, meaning they are invisible. "Opening" the captions means making them visible for the duration of the video.
Most channels that have clear speaking people, have automatic CC that is actually pretty accurate.
CC on my channel has to be manually input because since my accent is so bad, ITload recognises me as speaking Russian. So it tries to understand what I'm saying in Russian. But I'm not speaking Russian.

Funny reading the replies to this comment. Guarantee the ones complaining and telling you how and where you should donate your OWN money, have never helped or donated to anyone in their life. Then when you reply to them for attacking you they dismiss it👌🏻 Also never really see anyone complaining about bigger channels than this receiving donations for just watching other (often smaller) creators.

@Irene Lastnamegoeshere It appears the thanks function only works if you upload a video and enable it. I've looked for the function on channel pages without created content - like on the playlist pages, but there's no icon for donating. Your playlists look really interesting - if you uploaded content and enabled thanks and maybe even membership, then I could donate. I've also supported artists on Ko-fi too, if that helps.

Can you thank me, too? I have two Slavic kittens. Well, one’s not so much a kitty anymore, but more akin to babushka. I’ll send updates of their adventures. Babushka cat annoyed by youngster, their constant mad dash for freedom, and of course the nightly witching hour where they make sure the family is awake 2 hours before any sane person needs to up that flipping early. All proceeds go to a future scooter! Or bus money.

Despite being born in Mexico, English is like a second native language for me, yet I always use subtitles/CC when I watch media, why? I am not hard of hearing or have issues for the most part, but because I prefer to know everything that is being said, especially in movies or series where there are sound effects everywhere and sometimes dialogues get lost.

@luckymouse1988 That's actually done on purpose, that high dynamic range is used for "dramatic effect," which works well in a cinema but not so much a living room setting, except for certain circumstances. Most TVs nowadays actually have a setting available to normalize the sound, basically reducing those volume differences and making it "flatter."

    • Commander Shepard

      Commander Shepard

      3 mesi fa

@luckymouse1988 I've always wondered if that might be due to the perceived audio volume in the headset of the audio editors or something like that, dunno if I'm explaining this well

Sound mixing seems to be off with many shows and movies as well, they'd have the speech be very soft and then sound effects come in blaring on the highest volume setting. Gotta turn the volume up to hear people talking, but then five seconds later you're deaf because a door closed in the scene.

Thank you for taking the time to add subtitles and teaching us how to add them to our own videos. I had frequent infections in both ears as a child, which affected how my brain processes speech. I have probably the same problem. I can hear many sounds people cannot even hear (a door opening the other side of a building, chirping of birds, mechanical sounds of machines, etc. ), in fact I have problems with sudden sounds and I need near absolute silence to be able to sleep (when I was younger, my parents got me an aquarium and the sound of the filter and water splashing made me unable to sleep for two weeks, and made me getting to sleep hard and I had not a good sleep as long as I had the aquarium, my parents couldn't even hear the sounds...). But while I have a keen hearing, most of the time I have a hard time processing speech, especially when there's other sounds at the same time. I need extreme focus to listen to someone, and while I'm used to it now, it's still taxing. And I often miss many words during films and the like, but my reading skills and speed are extremely good, so subtitles are often a boon to my overtaxed brain.

Subtitles DOES Take a long time, and I say this as someone who does it sorta... professionnally ? but to be fair, subtitling on adobe premiere is not the friendliest or most streamlined way of subtitling. Personally I use VSS enhanced, because you can import a script and then just select the sentence you want to add a sub from, clic on where you want it, press a button and you're set.
however I have no idea how to change fonts or move it (it is probably possible, Aegisub does it, so...)

one of the reasons I enjoy boris’s videos so much is the subtitles. i’m partially deaf, so even though i can technically still hear sounds i struggle sometimes understanding or fully hearing it. After years of watching boris I can understand him no problem, but the subtitles help alleviate the anxiety that I’m not hearing something properly and, on videos I’ve already watched, add a nice fun bit to laugh at

I always put subtitles on everything, because my ADHD causes me to have auditory processing issues. I have a hard enough time processing what native English speakers are saying, so you taking the time to add the subtitles for challenged folks and your non Slavic audience is really awesome.

I've watched every Boris video and at this point, I understand everything he says like if I knew the guy personally. But I'm always glad to see the fact he DOES put in these subtitles, some of it adds to the comedy, the fact his deaf friend can partake in it, and the fact it opens his channel up to so many more people all are just the best things ever.

Thank you for putting all the hardwork. We really appreciate that. Yes, making subtitles is a pain in the arse. I still remember my first time adding subtitles to video for school project. It was only a 2 Minutes clip and it took me almost two hours. But at the end, what matters is that peoples can appreciate our content.

Came for the cooking videos, stayed for the commiseration on the challenges of subtitling videos. Sometimes my coworkers in higher ed say "youtube does a great job of generating subtitles so just post your videos there and it's fine"... sounds like they've never watched their own videos with subtitles on

I love that you always have subtitles. I have auditory processing issues. I can barely understand people talking in my native language with the same accent as me. YouTube is hard for me to enjoy because most videos don't have subtitles. The auto generated ones are getting better but still. I also know what a pain it is to go back and add subtitles. I'm a super amateur at it so a 5 minute video took me like an hour. I also never realized how perfectly done the subtitles here are. When I watch movies or shows or play games I always read the subtitles faster than they say them so I get kind of impatient.

This is so interesting to watch. Part of my job at my old college was subtitling documentaries and other videos for classes and it is SO MUCH WORK but so necessary.
I have ADHD so I need subtitles even though I can hear. It allows me to focus on what is being said without getting distracted by random stuff in the video or outside world things. I rarely watch videos that don't have subtitles anymore.
