      I have an idea for releasing the build price.......quietly mention it's actually twice what you'll be stating in the next video. Then when the missus does check the "how much did this cost me vid" she'll think it was quite reasonable. We'll all know the truth. 😂

    Zach, I count six different kinds of liquids (not four):
    1) brake fluid
    2) power steering fluid (VAVOLINE)
    3) wheel hub oil (MASTER PRO)
    4) transfer case gear oil (RED LINE)
    5) EV torque box gear oil (ROYAL PURPLE)
    6) battery coolant
    … seven if you are going to run a windshield washer pump/tank

    Check the date of manufacturing on those tires, might be good to keep for spares. Low chance they're still the originals from all that time ago. Also cracking on the sidewall is more dangerous than cracking on the tread, especially with tires that durable I wouldn't worry too much about the cracks you show. Just make sure the side of them aren't cracking, that's how you get blowouts like Westin 😁

    I'm a volunteer first responder, I love what you're doing to the HMMWV, I gotta ask - Will you be labeling this as an EV so any emergency responders know to watch for high voltage hazards? I have faith in you, I have faith in the structural integrity of the HMMWV, but people will prove the necessity of the consideration.

    Thanks for mentioning backset, it's really important for H1/HMMWV's as most truck rims will stick out a bit too much, then you risk cracking the hood if you are on full compression on the front end resulting in a cracked hood. That being said I'd go with the Cepek GT Hummer wheels, they were the only aftermarket wheel besides Hutchinson that was approved by AM General and exceeds specs, there's 2-3 styles and they were rated for 4000-4500 lbs per wheel at match the Steel wheels in terms of backset.

    Since the tires are rotational mass the effects of reduced weight are way more than just the absolute weight difference, so that 30lb/tire reduction is significant! Also any thoughts on safeguarding the drive select so it doesn't accidentally get slapped down to reverse while you're moving?

      @Aj Tech Talks Out of curiosity I perused a couple Army field manuals for the HMMWV, and never saw that particular part illustrated in any of them. Some forums suggested it was a tiedown location for airdrops, or rail loading. The army manual on Humvee airdrops made no mention of it however. I saw a couple images where the wheels are secured, but they used slings to wrap over the top of the tires. There is a document (fm21-305, pg.146) that shows a bar placed though it, with a rope, for use as an improvised winch, for vehicles without installed winch options.

    Just as a "down the road" upgrade thought... since your Humvee is now going to be electric (and nice and quiet) you will be able to hear lots of noise that wouldn't normally come through with the loud engine. The Hummer H1 Portal Hubs use helical gears to cut down on some of that noise rather than the straight cut gears that the Humvees used. Naturally you will get more strength from the straight cut gears, but if it ends up being too loud, this might be an upgrade you may want to consider.

    JFYI: the RTV should be applied to both the inner area and around the outside of the bolt holes. Not a crazy deal here, but with cast-iron the 3-4thou of gap created by the sealant on the inside of the bolt hole and not on the outside can crack the bolting tabs off when torqued down.

The 747 literally fell out of the sky shortly after take-off from a base in Afghanistan because an MRAP (successor to the Humvee) wasn't adequately secured. The MRAP came loose during ascent and crashed into the rear bulkhead of the plane, wrecking hydraulics and a jackscrew controlling the horizontal stabilizer in the process.

      @Aj Tech Talks Probably for anchor points to strap the vehicle down during transport by sea/air. They are heavy, so they need multiple points of contact to keep them from becoming inadvertent missiles in the cargo bay. Air takeoff and landings are sometimes very steep, and all the sloshing of a ship makes it even more important to have as many strap points as possible.

    Saving mass on tyres has the added benefit of reducing rotational inertia. Once a big, heavy tyre is spinning, most of the mass, which is, by the very nature of tyre design, toward the outside of its circumference is now 'encouraging' the tyre to keep spinning, perhaps even despite what the driver is doing with the brake pedal.

    Make sure to put that spare in your tire rotation schedule!
    I don't know if it's possible to get a full-size tire with the lifespan of a donut-spare. (From my understanding, donut spares last about 50% longer than full-size tires, in terms of years. As in, before they deteriorate)

    Just stopped by to check on your awesome build.
    Personally, I would have used amsoil Lubricants for all those needs... otherwise it looks like you've got a great build going on.

    Curious what the stock wheels with nonrunflat tires would weight.
    I like the choice you went with.

    Some food for thought… buy a humvee front end axel/steering assembly, modify it for the rear of the humvee and install a motor to engage/control rear wheel steering/crab mode .. attach a hall sensor to the front steering assembly (this lets the motor know how much to turn the rear wheels and in what direction) with a 3 way switch. Switch configuration.
    1 = tight steering radius
    2 = straight
    3 = crab mode..

    I bought M+S ❄️(mud and snow) tires for my car in the fall. They are a popular brand but after the first snow fall I had to buy winter tires as the all season M+S were terrible on ice or even a little snow. The tires he has on the hummer should be fine with rugged grip and a heavy vehicle but I doubt the rubber will be soft in cold weather.

    The hummer with the original tires may have look great, but keep in mind these tires have seen years of service in extreme heat and thousands of hours running on sand, combine that with the sun's UV rays equals a dangerous set of tires.

    You might want to add reinforcements to the front. Without the engine there to absorb collusion force, a head on collision could be more dangerous.

    I am wondering with the new cooling cover for the wheel gears… could the front wheels flick a rock at the glass sight window of the cooling cover on the back wheel?

    Would be a good idea to add a breather pipe and filter up high for the torquebox to prevent it taking in water when you are driving through deep puddles.

    Coolant(excited for that video), transfer case, portal hubs, torque box, differentials, power steering, brakes, and _maybe_ windshield washer fluid. I count 7 or 8 liquids. Granted, some are duplicates, but there are plenty of liquids in there.
