      @Filippo Maria De Matteis I've seen other boats do this thing called "running," Where they have the mainsail and jib on a broad reach on opposite sides, so they maximize sail area. Does this not work on AC75's?

      Because of physics... If they don't take advantage of the wind laterally they would end up halting in the middle of the race field due to adverse wind...

    The Americas Cup is now more exciting than F1. Tactics, reading the wind shifts, crew work, split second decisions........Just the best of sport without the politics of BLM etc bullshit.

      No BLM cause there is no diversity in this sport at all. The super rich and rich sport. No poor people here. No white people being killed by the police here. If you were being targeted you would not called BLM bullsh*t. Think of your privileged position before you comment. I do love the racing though.

    Why was start time delayed? INEOS had an extra hour to do stuff during the course change and then right when race is about to start they are allowed to "break" and get an additional 15 minutes?
    I am not a sailor, but seemed like Prada should have just run their own race instead of covering INEOS so much.

    Ineos unbeaten. Who would have believed that 2 months ago? Right now LR cannot beat Ineos. They have to race AM who, at best, could beat LR but not Ineos. I expect AM to beat LR on pure boat speed if their repairs are good. Either way, neither seem capable of beating Ineos so it´s ETNZ vs. Ineos in the final. ETNZ are probably SH1tting themselves. Burling is a puppy and Ainslie hates him.

    The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (II Peter 3:9 [KJV]) :: And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: (Acts 17:30 [KJV]) :: I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. My own analysis ::
    A reasons of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli lost win-game ;
    1).First, When 250m leads of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli(=lrpp) in leg 4, lrpp must be a containing attack by deversionary tactics.
    {when Ineos Team UK(=ituk) tacking(gybing), immediately lrpp tacking(gybing)as same location 'on head of wind' = keep on blanking}
    = missing the tacking(gybing) point/ tacking(gybing) time.
    2).Second, when ituk immediately tacking(gybing) after Gate 4 mark rounding, lrpp immediately tacking(gybing) must hold in checking.
    = missing freely ituk.
    3).Third, when last leg, last chance, on front of finish line meet the two boats, lrpp must be more offensive attacking acute incisive angulated boat head-up "starboard-attack" and tacking of 'collision avoidance'.
    = missing the last chance of heavens-given.

    On the capsize analysis of a week ago...
    "Really hard maneuver" might not have been the right wording...
    Tactician perhaps should have reported to the captain... "If we don't have enough pressure here, this is a very RISKY maneuver in the heavy weather conditions,"
    Perhaps Tacticians should have the power to over-rule the captain when he mentions a risky maneuver too.
    Perhaps even replace the word 'risky' with 'dangerous' if he is extremely worried about the whole situation.

    • nzriot

      nzriot

      Mese fa

      Team America might hold this against the kiwi skipper actually... Dean Barker's decision could have been costly.

    • nzriot

      nzriot

      Mese fa

      They did take an unnecessary risk no doubt, and I wish the captain had taken the tactician's advice, especially because they had a healthy and probably unassailable lead before the final leg... Taking the safer option would have avoided the disaster that ensued, and clocked up the first win for Team USA Wild conditions are always testing... It's a so-called white-knuckle ride playing with speeds once thought unthinkable on water. 90km per hour that day.

There have been comebacks, close racing, mistakes, huge wind shifts, clever strategy, repeated lead changes and a capsize (about which I'm genuinely sorry - good luck American Magic) and lots to talk about. Y yo! Last time, they got the coverage horribly wrong. But this time round, it's amazing to watch it the same day (CET time). Still a long way to go for the Challengers. The development in these new boats is incredibly fast, given INEOS were struggling big time at Christmas time. You can bet there's a lot more to come and American Magic, with a new refit, might ironically benefit the most in terms of adding speed and handling.
