Munknorr is Folk music to another level. Nordic /Old Norse , Celtic theme fused with Shamanic elements. The shamanic influence makes the music get closer to contemporary native American folk music. The chants are very Slavic. The drum beats are almost similar to the beat used in Canadian indigenous music. Such an impressive blend without loosing the essence of all influences .I am mesmerized.

The world is waking up … to the sounds of ancient worship . Be it Norse, Gallic, Pagan, Native American … these are the sounds of thousands of years of spiritual honesty. Not the deceit and lies and corruption of modern religion and fanaticism, this was pure , raw, and filled with love and appreciation of the world they inhabited. A love of the soil, the forest and streams, the differing seasonal weathers, and the animals they shared it with.
What you’re hearing, what you’re feeling, is the sheer enormity of man’s affinity with nature…before we started to devastate it for money and greed.
The answers to our future…lie in our past. Until we learn to respect each other and the Earth between our feet, we are cruising to our own annihilation.
Thank you for this remarkable compilation.

Wakan Tanka literal translation to English "The big holy". Meaning The Great Mystery, which Black Elk calls "the mysterious one"....meaning Creator. Wakan= sacred/holy. Tanka means large/big. Some will also say Thunkasila, which means Grandfather and can be applied to a human grandfather or Grandfather as in Creator. Thunka...big or huge, sila...pity or mercy....all translates as the One with Great Mercy.

@Grimala I am honored, thank you! I am very happy to hear that I've been able to speak about Native Americans in a way that doesn't disrespect you. I recognize that I am absolutely no expert - I'm Dutch, I live in the Netherlands, and discussions about Native Americans are obviously far less relevant over here. But I see humanity as a whole, and I want to fight for everyone's equality and recognition regardless of who they are or where they are from. I've been doing my best to educate myself about the reality of things, with all its prettier and uglier sides. Humans are not monoliths. But I can obviously still make mistakes, especially because it's not my life and not my lived experience, so who am I to talk about it? Yet, I think it's important to use my time and energy to fight for equality and respect, and I want to extend that respect to everyone, not just selfishly only to my own culture. So it means more than I can express to hear your words from someone who *does* have that lived experience. I've never had any response from any Native Americans before, so all I could do was keep educating myself, keep listening, and keep trying to be better. So by all means, if you have any pointers for me, any tips, anything that I need to learn more about, I would be very grateful to hear it. I can never fully erase my Western bias because that's humanly impossible, but I can do my best to gather as many perspectives from outside my own as possible so I can understand other people better. I know I am not entitled to anyone else's time, so I don't wish to pressure you. Feel free to ignore if you so wish :)

@wimpymind n this is objectively false. We have historical data of native american trade routes. The shoshone rendezvous in the middle/soutwhest, Jicarilla-apache routes in the east, Tillamook in the northwest, and so on. This idea that natives were exclusively at war is brain dead. And what information we have of the wars were not this consistent brutality that you're describing. I've read worse from eastern europe.

In the morning, and at noon, and in the evening, it is good to go to the temple of the Lord to praise the Creator of all. Blessed is he who opens his heart to praise and praises the Lord. Cursed is he who opens his heart to blasphemy and slander against his neighbor. Blessed is he who opens his mouth, blessing and praising the Lord. Cursed is he who opens his mouth to curse and blaspheme in the presence of the Lord. Blessed is he who glorifies all the works of the Lord. Cursed is he who insults the creation of the Lord. Blessed is He who creates by the labor of his hands. Cursed is he who seeks to destroy the works of others. Blessed is he who keeps the foundations of his ancestors. Cursed is he who violates the establishment and laws of his ancestors. Blessed is the creative world. Cursed is the destroyer of peace. Blessed is he who says «peace (to you)" and has peace in his heart. Cursed is he who says this, but has no peace in his heart. All this will appear on the scales and in the books on the Day of the Supreme Court.

Perhaps you envisioned this type of gathering among Norse and Native American peoples way before your music was actually produced. I have, for many years. I imagined such gatherings were shared for hundreds of years. There is no doubt that there was intimate contact. Certainly, some 'northmen' stayed behind in North America, while many Native Americans went back to the homeland of the Norse (voluntarily or otherwise). How interesting it would be to hypothesize and conduct research using what evidence/artifacts could be salvaged from the remaining historical record covering that time period. It is not the traditional history that I was taught as a boy. Although, by now, it is clear there was significant interaction and a sharing of knowledge and an awakening of the suspicion that not all things seem to be as we assumed them to be. In my opinion, the body of research that could be compiled would have a significant impact on how humanity will ultimately overcome the recent celebration of our differences. I would expect that the teachings/experiences of the earliest world travelers would ultimately fuel a movement towards the celebration of our similarities. There is no doubt in my mind that the curiosity and compassion realized among culturally different peoples upon their unexpected crossing of paths had a profound influence on the cultural and psychological evolution of our species. How could anyone doubt it? Survival was not as taken for granted in those times. It would only make sense that the sharing of knowledge, a sense of mutual respect, and some level of desire to protect each individual (despite differences) would become the ultimate motivation to embrace complimentary traits, skills. and differences in how we understand the world that we percieve while discovering that this perception is limited and not absolute. What a giant step forward towards the understanding of the limitations of our own consciousness, and how important it is to seek out the similarities among culturally diverse populations.
Realizing that we have common goals, dreams, affections, interests, desires, and the need to evolve could only bring us closer. Dividing people based on race, culture, religion, language, and their general fund of experiential knowledge is more destructive than genocide. Existing with an understanding that groups will coexist while maintaining their differences (in order to form various group identities) will always promote separatism and form barriers that will prevent a collaborative of all of us working together to solve problems. Imagine if your first thoughts of every human being you came into contact with, as well as their thoughts of you, were positive and enthusiastic. What if all humans (including strangers) naturally greeted each other as old friends, without a notion of threat or danger? I think the goodness within most of us would prevail against the selfishness of the few damaged souls that will find confrontation and competition as effective means to support their survival. Their ranks will dwindle-it is inevitable. Now, it is just a matter of shutting down the power of fear.
No problem, right? Eliminating a tool that has been used for thousands of years to control the masses (as well as close family members and loved ones) should be an easy task. With patience (maybe) and perseverance (definitely), it is possible. We have to keep looking ahead, beyond our own short lives, to maintain that positive change. We have to focus beyond one lifetime or a couple of generations if we want to continue our existnce beyond a lifetime or a couple of generations. We can't strive for something we cannot build and maintain within our consciousness. If everyone focused on their own retirement or death, or "the end", they could not possibly live their lifetime with the notion that they are a very small but important element in the evolution of the human spirit. What they could have contributed will ultimately die with them. It is like walking backwards while you are facing your destiny. Our destiny is simply made up of what is built upon what we perceive as "life" by everyone that takes what we give to the next level. We will live forever within this progression of consciousness.
    Thanks for the awesome tunes!!

I don't think norse took any slaves from north america to be honest, I do think there might have been trade sure .. and for sure there have been clashes ... we can read about them in the sagas where they fought skrælinger (norse name for natives in America). Norse did not come to America to raid, they settled and explored and traded thats was what norse usually did ..

I have long thought that long ago Celtic and Germanic tribes (people of Friya) came to the Americas! In fact the culture and the spiritual ideas and way of living of many of the more noble of the native American tribes in Canada and the US and even South are uncanny when compared to the Goths and on back into history to the Scythian people!! The burial mounds, the raising of the young men as warriors, the understanding of the great spirit and Nature as a direct cause of that spirit, the need to always be vigilant in the face of degradation by other peoples who practice darker arts and usury!!
I believe they are all cousins from long long ago, way before any Spaniard visited the Americas.

This is it... The greatest thing YouTube has ever recommended! If there ever is a physical album, I'd buy it in a drum and raspy chant filled heartbeat!

Can somone explain to me how native American and viking music come together? I guess they dropped this in vinland lol. No really tho I never understood the pop culture idea of tribal viking music. I like the tracks no hate I'd just like to see some more traditional scandi music. for anyone interested Stanford brua and vinland a fagre are great examples.

Thank you. One question please, do we know these Norsemen songs through the oral tradition such as in Native American traditions, and or are they written in ancient texts? Have these songs been extrapolated from runestones?
