Ahhh man, legendary days...I used to follow on TV back in the day.seeing my favourite team Subaru in the running..great days
Engineering The World Rally documentary - great piece of work and history!
2:57:00 The fact that he admitted he made a mistake is huge in my opinion. Most professional race drivers have way to big of an ego and would blame everyone else. 👍
Plz upload the continue parts, video is superb I appreciate it. Well done THANK 3
So happy I found this, one day I’ll own one of em!!
Subaru was not the same without David Richards as team boss. Having a man on board that had rally background and had won rallies with Ari Vatenen helped a lot, plus he managed to tame Colin McRae, which is no easy thing. David Lapworth was an extremely good engineer, having engineered some of the best cars for Subaru, yet he was not a good team boss, as demonstrated by Subaru's eventual crumble after loss, after loss.
@Graham Keeton but richards and wilson surely didnt start for the money since richards started as a codriver in the 70s and malcom as a driver in the 80s, a time when only the best drivers of the biggest teams made any serious money
Xeno you are totally right but Richards was not flawless I mean he cocked up a couple times but overall he knew how to go racing. Ultimately I think the other teams got better also which forced prodrives hand to upgrade re-design and that comes with the niggles and gremlins that need time to iron out and then as we see here it was a shit show but that's racing as they say 🤣🤣
Yep. 100% agree. David Richard’s has a bullshit meter! Am sure he’s a formidable man. When Colin Mcrea (RIP) rolled the Legacy multiple times,David was there with the boys with a lump hammer…if the boss is getting stuck in,it builds moral 🤘🏼
@Graham Keeton That's an interesting opinion on Richards & Wilson. They had no choice but to make a business out of it. Citroen, Peugeot etc. didn't have to worry about selling cars to keep the bottom line up. For Subaru, anything from the S12 on was flawed in terms of a chassis. Petter knows it too & he's flat out refused to go into the details when interviewed, out of respect for Subaru. I would agree with earlier comments though, David Lapworth was a fantastic engineer but he wasn't ideally suited to the team boss role.
Sorry but have to disagree That Richards guy was an arrogant arse Just like Malcolm Wilson They were both arrogant business men who were always in the sport for the money and not for the sport When you mix business with sport it never works but unfortunately then they have the marketing and media people telling anyone who would listen that they were doing well and everything is fine So if that's the case then what happened to Subaru then in this year Not just bad luck I think the whole team just didn't prepare and were just interested in money and hype
Wish this one could have been re-digitalised
I remember watching this on Discovery Channel when it aired. Nice look at the behind the scenes of a rally, but wow that was some bad luck that befell the SWRT in that season.
Phil mills calming voice is the one you need while your car is speeding through bump and doing crazy manoeuvre in Dirt rally 2.0
I watched this start to finish. Great upload!
When Discovery Channel was a discovery channel.
Subaru's first winless season since 1992
2006, '07 and '08 were all fairly disappointing for Subaru. No victories, no championships. Sad.
A good show but such a crap year (for Subaru) to cover.
Well 2 things I took away were drivers have the easiest job and management generally has ulterior motives and suck more often than not.
@John Decena you alright mate?
Technical question: anyone know if it's permitted to use one kind of tire up front and another in the rear?
Yh I think so
Working for a rally team IS FUN, BUT DEFINITELY DOSENT PAY enough!
Is there a second part to this? It seems a bit odd to leave it mid season...
1 issue i see in this great documentry is most the choices david lapworth makes pretty much ruins peters fast pace, shame as he is a top bloke
Idk why a team manager is making decisions on tyres, that should be up too the driver/co-driver
No bro its fate r luck coz see when Chris made a tyre choice in Argentina r some where else it didn't worked
Thanks for posting brotha
Ace cheers mate
